This compilation from the long-unpublished stereo masters of two 1957 LPs captures two of the 20th century’s greatest Wagnerian singers in their prime. With a total timing of 82 minutes it adds to the previous Testament presentation by including as a ‘bonus’ track the Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde; and the complete (mono) recording of Senta’s Ballad (The Flying Dutchman) appears for the first time on CD.

Mike Ashman’s booklet essay recounts in fascinating detail the origins of these recordings in their producer Walter Legge’s thwarted attempts to record and publish a Bayreuth Ring.

As ever in GRoC, these vintage stereo recordings have been newly remastered to the highest ART standard.
